Validate system for lowest-risk category
Introduction to C0 Class Drones and Testing Requirements
The C0 class is the lowest-risk category under the EU drone classification system defined by Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2019/945. It applies to very lightweight drones, typically used for hobbyist and consumer applications, and allows operation under minimal regulatory burden.
Key Characteristics of C0 Drones
- Maximum take-off mass (MTOM): Less than 250 grams, including payload.
- Maximum speed: Not specified, but must be safe for general use.
- Operation type: Allowed in the Open Category, A1 subcategory – meaning users may fly over uninvolved people (but not assemblies of people).
- Pilot requirements: No formal training or registration needed (except where required for remote identification or geo-awareness).
